I can say this about historical novels and that is that google and wikipedia are priceless looking up facts. While my secretary is typing my dictation, I can also ask her to look up historical data and put it into the story.

I am a retired physician in Psychiatry. My two interests (besides my nice wife) are writing novels and playing duplicate bridge at our Scottsdale Club.
